Inaudible – audible, among the bats
Experience the invisible world of sound in a unique sonic adventure!
The sound sculpture Inaudible – audible, among the bats by Boštjan Perovšek invites you to explore a unique soundscape created by the creatures of the night. It represents a special fusion of sound ecology and bioacoustic music, where the world of the inaudible transforms into an artistic composition.
Recordings of bats, which naturally communicate in ultrasonic frequencies, have been carefully processed and translated into the human audible range. Their calls are accompanied by the mysterious sounds of the night – rustling leaves, distant forest echoes, the inner pulse of castle architecture… The result is a spatial (3D, 360°) sound experience, presented to visitors through headphones in ambisonic format.
The entire installation is environmentally conscious – the headphone-based sound sculpture offers an intimate experience without adding noise pollution to the natural acoustic environment of Rihemberk Castle.
Information about the sound sculpture experience:
• Headphone pickup: at the reception by the entrance
• Schedule: available year-round during the castle’s opening hours, every full hour. The first session begins 15 minutes after opening.
• Cost: the experience is free of charge and included in the regular admission ticket; a 10 € deposit is required for the headphones, which is refunded upon return.
• Duration: approximately 35 minutes
• Playback location: central castle courtyard
• Important headphone guidelines: For safety reasons, it is not permitted to listen to the sound sculpture while walking. Please handle the headphones with care and return them undamaged.
The project Inaudible – audible, among the bats was developed by SAETA – Institute for Cultural and Promotional Activities, as part of the official GO! 2025 programme.
