On a rocky outcrop protruding from the slope of Mt. Golec above the village of Branik, a mighty castle, one of Slovenia’s oldest, has reigned for centuries. The eye of the traveller passing through these parts is captured by its ancient walls, in the middle of which a great tower with a crown of merlons reaches for the sky. Its walls guard stories of many centuries that shaped people and places in this part of Europe.
